Element matchups

Interactive attacking and defending matchups for all nine elements.

Explore each element as an attacker or defender, then use the overview to follow its relationships with the other elements. This topic has its own entry under Combat, separate from the damage-calculation chapter.

All matchups

Rows attack; columns defend. The full table includes neutral and same-element matchups. Scroll horizontally on smaller screens to reach every defending element.

Reading the table

An arrow means attacker → defender. Matchups do not always reverse symmetrically: Dark attacking Water has a base factor of ×0.625, while Water attacking Dark is ×1.

Base matchup Factor Meaning in the table
Super effective ×1.6 Increased base elemental factor
Neutral ×1 No change from the base relationship
Not effective ×0.625 Reduced base elemental factor

These values describe the single-element matchup table. They are not a promise of final damage after all combat modifiers. The attacker/defender interpretation is consistent with the selected-element lookup and the reviewed elemental-factor calculation.

By element

Choose Ice, Water, Lightning, Fire, Grass, Earth, Wind, Dark or Light. Two diagrams show:

  • Attacking: elements this attack is super effective or not effective against.
  • Defending: attacking elements that this defender resists or takes super effective attacks from.

Each relationship keeps its arrow direction and factor label. Element names remain visible alongside the icons. Neutral relationships and all same-element matchups are available in the complete table.

Example: Dark

View Relationship Elements
Attacking Deals ×1.6 to Lightning, Grass, Light
Attacking Deals ×0.625 to Water, Wind
Defending Takes ×1.6 from Wind, Light
Defending Takes ×0.625 from Earth

Overview graph

The overview places all nine elements around a diagram. Selecting an element focuses its connections:

  • Attacking highlights outgoing arrows.
  • Defending highlights incoming arrows.
  • Effective and not-effective relationships can be shown separately or together.
  • Show all elements reveals all enabled non-neutral relationships.
  • The complete 9 × 9 table provides a readable alternative for inspecting exact values, including neutral and same-element matches.

The default shows only the selected element's effective relationships, keeping the overview readable before showing all links. Solid and dashed lines distinguish the two relationship types in addition to color.

  • This view compares one attack element against one defending element. It does not implement a combined multi-element defender calculator.
  • The reviewed elemental-factor calculation can combine defender-element factors and apply restraint/resistance attributes. Those additional effects are outside this basic chart.
  • Ranged, Fly, Tunnel and Pound belong to spatial relations, a separate system. They should not be added as element nodes or treated as elemental multipliers.
  • The diagram's arrangement is for readability. It is not a claim that the elements follow one simple cycle.
